ABOUT

George is a creative based in Lisbon. His creative practice is rooted in the belief that by connecting with nature & myth, we can unlock new ways of thinking, creating, & being.

THEN

The name George comes from the Greek Geōrgios, meaning ‘farmer’ or ‘earth-worker’. It’s a great place to start. George’s early years were fueled by obsessions such as wolves, Ray Mears’ bushcraft and The Edgeware Chronicles book series (if you know, you know). Much later on, interests in biological anthropology, nutrition, movement training, biophilic design, & permaculture laid the groundwork for a career designing for health.

I came to design and art by a slightly unconventional route, studying anthropology before working in marketing and operations at food startups in London. Seven years into my design practice, I’ve had the pleasure of working with clients across the arts, culture, nature and health sectors.

My work is rooted in a fascination with organic forms, symbolism, analogue textures and the emotional side of design: the details and ideas that make something not just look good, but ideally connect us to something more fundamental. This work feels particularly meaningful in the current movement towards tech-driven innovation.

NOW

Conceptually, I’m very interested in how creative pursuits can help build connections within ourselves and within society. To find a sense of personal meaning, as well as ancestral intelligences and emotions. Through researching folk art, mythical representation, organic texture and the anthropology of art, I hope to produce works that capture the movement of energy in a visual way.

Generally, I’m much more interested in the overall themes at play, the energy inputs, associations and context than I am in accurate representation.
